Donald Roller Wilson uses unusual choices of images such as dogs and cats, chimpanzees, cigarettes and many more. He paints in oils in a very refined way using the same techniques of the Old Masters.
New York Times states, "Donald Roller Wilson's goofy, hallucinogenic, Old Master-style painting of monkeys, dogs and cats dressed up in antique costumes may be kitsch, but its high-quality kitsch, like good beach reading."
The animals in his paintings "Question mysteries of life and take chances with authority and religion." (Saylor 2009).
His paintings display humour and human characteristics upon apes, my favourite paintings are named:
'Beverly got caught with a camel in her bedroom' and
'She had a big hot one up her nose'
The attitude on the faces of the chimps are intriguing and the outfits are flamboyant and fitting for the characters in the paintings.
